On 19 September, as part of "Monaco Week Sydney," celebrating the 10th anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the Principality of Monaco and Australia, the Embassy of Monaco and the Honorary Consulate in Sydney organised a dinner in aid of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, in collaboration with Park Hyatt Sydney and the Société des Bains de Mer.

Thanks to the collaboration of the Société des Bains de Mer-Monte-Carlo, the 120 guests had the privilege of enjoying a menu created jointly by the Michelin-starred chef of the Hermitage Hotel, Benoit Witz, and the resident chef of the Park Hyatt Sydney, Etienne Karner.

This is the first time that an event to promote the work of the Princess Charlene Foundation has been held in Australia.  The money raised at this dinner will be used by the Royal Life Saving Society Australia, with which the Princess Charlene Foundation is collaborating, to develop educational and awareness-raising programmes on the prevention of drowning.  After giving a presentation of the role and activities of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the Ambassador of Monaco, H. E. Ms. Catherine Fautrier, reminded guests that the percentage of deaths from drowning worldwide is still incredibly high.

Last year, 291 deaths from drowning were recorded in Australia, and 685 people were hospitalised as a result of accidents.  Children are still the most affected, making up 45% of the victims in 2016.  Justin Scarr, the CEO of Royal Life Saving Australia, emphasised the importance of working with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which, through the Princess's personal commitment to this cause, makes it possible to increase communication on the subject of prevention and work together to put an end to these tragedies.
