Diplomacy - Accreditations Fiji - Chile
On Thursday 12 October 2017, at a lunch held at the Hermitage Hotel, Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, received H.E. Mr. Deo Saran, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Fiji and H.E. Ms. Marcia Covarrubias, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile, who presented their Letters of Credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince during the morning.
H.E. Mr. Deo Saran was appointed Director General of the Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited in 2008. In 2010, he became a management consultant and then a Climate Ambassador at the COP23. He successively held the posts of Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, the FAC and IFAD, Permanent Representative to the European Union, Non-Resident Ambassador to France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Georgia, Greece and Morocco, Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union. He is the first Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to Monaco.
H.E. Mrs. Marcia Covarrubias began her diplomatic career in 1989, when she was responsible for drawing up Chile's foreign policy with the Arab World for the first Democratic Government. In 1990, she was appointed Ambassador to the Tunisian Republic and Special Envoy of the President of the Chilean Republic to several countries. She then successively occupied the posts of Ambassador to Algeria, the Hellenic Republic and Morocco. In 1996, she became Diplomatic Advisor to the Minister of Economy and was the Founder and Director General of the Greek-Latin America Business Council, a Senior Expert at the UNDP for Transition in Tunisia, Senior Advisor to the UN in Tunis and a Member of the UNESCO-CISH Board for the MENA region.
