The Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo

After establishing the Academy that carries her name, Princess Grace wanted to revive the prestigious tradition of choreography in the Principality, once the creative home to Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, by creating a new permanent ballet company. The Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo was established in 1985. H.R.H. Princess Caroline of Hanover, president Who presidesof the company, named Jean-Christophe Maillot as its Choreographer-Director in 1993.

The Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum provides the Ballets de Monte-Carlo with a space installed with state-of-the-art technology, enabling the company to create and put on premiere performances of works that will then be performed on tours throughout the world, which take up more than six months per year of the company’s schedule.

In 2009 and 2010, the Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo collaborated with the Princess Grace Dance Academy, the Monaco Dance Forum and other cultural organisations of the Principality for the Celebration of the Centenary of the Ballets Russes in Monaco. In 2012, under the presidency of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo brought these three institutions together within one single structure. The Ballets de Monte-Carlo thus combines the prestige of an international ballet company, the advantages of a diverse festival and the potential of a top-quality dance school.
