Unveiling the artwork of Giuseppe Ducrot
H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, have today unveiled a monument created in honour of Prince Albert I, commissioned from the Italian artist Giuseppe Ducrot and installed on the facade of the Lycée Albert I, in Ruelle Chanoine Georges Franzi, Monaco-Ville.
After devoting much time to painting and drawing, Giuseppe Ducrot, born in 1966 in Rome, where he lives and works, turned his attention to sculpture, a means of expression that he later explored through a wide range of mediums, including terracotta, glazed ceramics, marble, and lost-wax bronze casting. His work is inspired by the classical art of Imperial Rome, Hellenistic sculpture, and the Baroque period.
This commission was conceived to mark the centenary of the death of Prince Albert I. The artwork, made from white ceramic, is just over five metres high and around three metres wide, with a bust of Prince Albert I as the centrepiece.
Located along the pathway leading to the Oceanographic Museum, another emblematic building from the reign of Prince Albert I, this monument will ensure that future generations will remember the prince’s many contributions to education, science, and the arts.
