H.E. Mr. Serge Telle, accompanied by a delegation*, is taking part in the 8th World Water Forum, which is taking place from 18 to 23 March in Brasilia.  Almost 40,000 people from more than 160 countries, including decision-makers, politicians, experts and civil society, as well as those involved with water throughout the world, are meeting this year on the theme of "Sharing Water."

In his speech at the official Opening Ceremony, the Minister of State emphasised that, "Our responsibility is to act while there is still time – to mobilise States, support multilateral organisations, and set societies in motion.  For all that, the issue of water is a powerful lever."

He called for the shortcomings of a short-sighted economy to be corrected;  too often, this economy considers water, and natural resources, as universal goods with no value, adding, "It is urgent to learn how to include these universal goods in our profitability calculations, just as it is also essential to include the long-term effects of our actions on the environment in these calculations."

Finally, he recalled that Monaco, under the authority of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, has made water a priority.

The Minister of State then delivered a speech at the opening of the ministerial meeting and took part in a ministerial round table on climate change.

The World Water Forum, organised by the World Water Council , is one of the largest water-related events in the world, contributing to the dialogue on the decision-making process on water at the global level, with the aim of achieving a rational, sustainable use of this resource.
