IMSEE Publishes a Focus on Education
The Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (IMSEE) has just published a Focus on Education. This publication shows that, as of 31 December 2016, 6,328 pupils, from nursery school to Year 13, are enrolled in the various establishments in the Principality (70% in the State sector).
Boys are slightly more numerous than girls (50.3% vs. 49.7%) and 80 different nationalities are represented (Monegasque nationals make up 17% of the total, i.e. 1,200 pupils). On average, there are 21 pupils per class.
On the educational side, there are 601 teachers in the Principality (with an average age of 45), two-thirds of whom are women; more than half the teaching staff in educational establishments, whether State-run or private, are French. Monegasque nationals, who make up more than 40% of the State sector, represent less than 10% of the private sector.
