Housing for Monegasques: an ambitious national plan

H.S.H. Prince Albert II today officially launched the National Housing Plan for Monegasques, covering the next 15 years, at the Minister of State’s residence. Serge Telle and Stéphane Valeri, President of the National Council, were both in attendance. The Head of State had asked the Government to develop such a plan on Monaco’s national holiday in November last year.

“For me, housing for Monegasques is a national cause, an absolute priority. It is something my Government has been working on consistently for many years,” said the Sovereign.

The Minister of State set out the different components of this ambitious and realistic plan, which will increase the capacity of state-owned housing by 43% over the next 15 years, to reach a total of 4,548 homes. “Our goal is to enable more than three quarters of households to live in a state-owned apartment, with the aim of meeting demonstrated needs in full,” emphasised Serge Telle. “This is an historic policy moment for the Principality.”

“We fully endorse the vision for the future offered by this housing plan, called for by the Prince. It perfectly complements our approach,” said Stéphane Valeri.

This state-funded construction programme is based on a forward-looking study with a long-term vision, leading to a review of demographic issues and the law on nationality.
