The International German Club supports the National Biodiversity Strategy

Céline Caron-Dagioni et Wilma Lämmle dévoilent une plaque commémorative en mémoire d’Eugen Lämmle à l’occasion de la plantation d’arbres-bouteille ©DR

Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, had the pleasure of unveiling a commemorative plaque with Wilma Lämmle, who, as part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of the International German Club of the Principality of Monaco, donated in memory of her husband, Eugen Lämmle, the funds to plant eleven ‘bottle trees’ on Avenue Princesse Grace, in front of the Grimaldi Forum.

Ms Caron-Dagioni praised the German Club's efforts and the generous contribution made by Ms Lämmle, which are part of the drive to boost partnerships between the public and private sectors in order to implement public policies geared towards adapting to climate change in Monaco. These partnerships and donations from private individuals, associations and companies, which are widespread in many countries, are still in their infancy in the Principality and should be encouraged.

This donation, dedicated to the purchase of trees for the renaturation of the city, falls within the scope of the Government's National Biodiversity Strategy, which has seen trees planted that can adapt to the Mediterranean climate and the expected future changes. Brachychitons are known as ‘bottle trees’ due to their ability to store water in their trunks during the dry season.
