Monaco Takes Part in the United Nations World Wildlife Day "Forests and Livelihoods – Sustaining People and Planet"

Monaco is taking part in the 2021 World Wildlife Day, to be celebrated on 3 March. This special day in the United Nations calendar will be devoted to forests.

Approximately 350 million people worldwide live in or near forests and around 1.6 billion people depend directly or indirectly on them. Forests are refuges of biodiversity for 80% of the known terrestrial species, provide populations with essential resources, both for food and medicine, and act as the lungs of the planet by absorbing most of the CO2 emitted.

This day also falls within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals:  No. 1 No poverty, No. 2 Zero hunger, No. 12 Responsible consumption and production, No. 13 Climate Action and No. 15 Life on Land.

These specific ecosystems are under threat; their predicted disappearance will accelerate the process of global warming and loss of biodiversity, with all the ensuing consequences for humanity.

It is important that everyone is aware of this situation and that each person endeavours, through their choices and actions, to avoid harming forests, in particular by choosing wood or wood derivatives from sustainably managed forests.

The Prince's Government invites you to celebrate this day by sharing this information, especially via social networks.

A virtual event will take place on 3 March at 2 p.m. (CET):  World Wildlife Day - YouTube
