European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) 19 to 27 November 2022
For the fourth year in a row, the Department of the Environment has signed the Principality up for the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), which will be held from 19 to 27 November 2022.
EWWR is a European initiative that calls for the implementation of sustainable resource and waste management awareness activities in all participating countries, both European and non-European.
To ensure that the event is a success, we are looking for people to lead actions!
Anyone can take action to increase awareness and organise events aimed at the general public or at a specific audience: colleagues, employees, members of an association, students, and so on.
The theme that has been proposed for 2022 is “Circular and Sustainable Textiles” with the slogan “Waste is out of fashion!”
From production through to distribution, use and post-use (collection, sorting, recycling and final management of waste, which most often means incineration and landfill), the textiles industry has a huge environmental impact.
EWWR invites us to rethink the “fashion” in which we consume textiles and seek out more sustainable solutions: a different “look” is possible!
All actions are welcome, even if they are not connected to this year’s theme. Please note that events must focus on the three “Rs”: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, or involve a waste collection initiative.
An initial information meeting will be held on 13 September.
