World Patient Safety Day

The fourth World Patient Safety Day will take place on 17 September 2022. Created by the WHO in 2019 and marked worldwide, the event aims to promote safe healthcare through concerted action by Member States and global solidarity.

This year, World Patient Safety Day will focus on the safety and proper use of medications, and the importance of putting in place systems to make the use of medications safer and to combat dangerous practices. This involves action on the three main causes of avoidable medication-related harm: high-risk situations, transitions of care, and polypharmacy.

The Principality fully endorses this day of action.

Recently, Act No. 1,518 of 21 December 2021 on the practice of pharmacy served to modernise and better regulate the dispensing of medicines in urban pharmacies, including online, but also in healthcare establishments.

For patients receiving care in these establishments, hospital pharmacies in particular are tasked with dispensing and supervising medicines, safety measures, and sterile medical devices.

Clinical pharmacy actions are also carried out for the benefit of healthcare teams and patients, to ensure that medications and other healthcare products are used more safely, appropriately, and effectively.

To mark World Patient Safety Day, games and quizzes are being made available to healthcare professionals and the general public in waiting rooms and at the reception desk of the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, to test their knowledge and convey key messages.
