Monaco Collectif Humanitaire: two children undergo life-saving operations at Monaco Cardiothoracic Centre
Monaco Collectif Humanitaire (MCH) has arranged for two children from Madagascar and Burundi to have surgery at Monaco Cardiothoracic Centre for heart problems that cannot be treated in their home countries. During their stay, on Thursday 24 July, MCH gathered its loyal donors Children & Future, Monaco Aide et Présence (MAP), AMADE, and Amitié Sans Frontières Internationale.
Two weeks ago, the charity Aviation Sans Frontières flew Mia, 2, from Burundi, and Fayah, 9, from Madagascar to the Principality, where they were welcomed by volunteer host families from the Monaco Red Cross.
The children were then admitted to the Cardiothoracic Centre, a long-standing partner of MCH since its founding in 2008, where they received specialised care from the medical team.
Currently, 90% of operations are funded directly in the MCH’s partner countries. However, Burundi does not have the surgical facilities necessary to treat cardiac conditions, while in Madagascar open-heart surgery remains in the early stages of development.
It is therefore vital to continue providing children from these countries with access to treatment in the Principality.
During Mia and Fayah’s stay in Monaco, the MCH’s members gathered to present donations for 2025. They included the MCH’s largest donor, Children & Future, along with MAP, a loyal annual donor, and AMADE, which helped establish a dedicated programme focused on “building healthcare workers’ skills in partner countries”, in collaboration with the non-profit SHARE. Also present was Amitié Sans Frontières Internationale, which recently organised a sports tournament to raise funds for an operation in Monaco.
Despite these generous donations, MCH is still actively seeking funding, for while the initiative has enabled around 630 children to receive vital care, many more are still in urgent need of support.
