The Department of Cultural Affairs of Monaco presents The Rainier III Sculpture Trail, an artistic heritage experience of over 150 works to discover throughout the Principality
As part of centennial commemorations for Prince Rainier III, the Department of Cultural Affairs of Monaco has launched a discovery trail of sculptures laid out in public areas to promote the Principality’s artistic heritage.
The long-standing tradition of artistic patronage by the Princes of Monaco over time developed significantly during the reign of Prince Rainier III.
Under his leadership, the Prince’s Government acquired numerous works, notably between 1987 and 2004 during the Monte-Carlo International Sculpture Festival.
These sculptures have been placed in public areas in accordance with Prince Rainier III’s wish to create an open-air museum in Monaco and provide free access for the public to works by illustrious artists such as César, Arman, Fernando Botero, Jean-Michel Folon and Anish Kapoor, to name but a few.
The Rainier III Sculpture Trail will be inaugurated on 31 May as part of centennial commemoration festivities.
Throughout the proposed trail, visitors can learn more about the sculptures by scanning a QR code positioned nearby. An interactive map will guide each visitor according to the neighbourhood visited.
This project was led by the Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the Heritage Institute, the Department of Urban Amenities and the Digital Transition Office of Monaco.
