On the Occasion of Celebrations for its 20th Anniversary, Monaco Station is Right on Track with its Innovations

Monaco-Monte-Carlo railway station officially celebrated its 20th anniversary on Monday 14 September. The modern – and underground - version of the Principality's railway station was inaugurated in December 1999 by Prince Rainier III.

To mark this anniversary, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, with the Minister of State, Pierre Dartout, the Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, and the Ambassador of France to Monaco, Laurent Stefanini, visited the new facilities and shops that have been developed for Monaco Station in line with the Principality's eco-sustainability and digital ambitions. They were accompanied by Fabrice Morenon, Managing Director of Hubs & Connexions, an international subsidiary of the SNCF.

This visit, led by Severine Canis-Froidefond, Director of Forward Studies, Urban Planning and Mobility, and Georges Gambarini, Head of the Smart City programme at the Digital Services Department, was interspersed with presentations of new digital innovations: the WeBike terminal, which makes it possible to recharge a mobile phone or tablet by pedalling, Work Stations, which are work spaces with unlimited Wi-Fi access, and Amazon Lockers, where parcels sent by Amazon can be collected.

At the end of the visit, three posters by the Monegasque architect and graphic designer Lola Rozewicz, created especially for the occasion, were unveiled, illustrating the key stages of the development of the railway in the Principality since the 19th century.

In His inaugural speech, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince recalled that "Monaco-Monte-Carlo station is the main 'gateway' to the Principality, due to its central location and its connections with other modes of transport." He added that "At the dawn of the 21st century, and after 20 years of operation, Monaco Station remains today an illustration of a new concept of a modern station that is technically and architecturally innovative. It includes all the facilities that are necessary and indispensable for offering users a remarkable quality of service at all levels." (...) "The development of the train is part of an ambitious global policy by my Government to promote public transport and 'soft' and shared mobility."
