A Monegasque delegation led by Richard Marangoni, Police Commissioner of the Police Department; Chief Superintendent Jean-François Mirigay, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division, and Police Captain Pierre Wioska, Head of the International Cooperation attended the 51st regional conference of INTERPOL, held from 11–13 June 2024 in Tirana, Albania.

The conference aimed to evaluate and cooperate to prevent existing and emerging regional threats and trends in transnational crime in Europe.

With 196 members, INTERPOL is the largest international organisation working to help make the world a safer place by sharing information and best practices in policing.

The three-day event was an opportunity for the Monegasque delegation to initiate discussions with several foreign delegations, including two bilateral meetings with the heads of the Indian and Austrian delegations on the subjects of organised crime and the fight against cybercrime.

On 12 June 2024 a meeting was organised with INTERPOL’s Secretary General Jürgen Stock at his request. At the end of his mandate as Secretary General of the organisation, Mr Stock wished to thank the Monaco Police Department for its ongoing investment at INTERPOL and the strong ties between this international organisation and the Principality. He recalled that the idea of creating an entity for police cooperation arose in the Principality in 1914 at the request of Prince Albert I and spoke of the 83rd session of the General Assembly held in Monaco 100 years later, in November 2014.

Mr Stock also expressed his personal attachment to the Principality of Monaco and was moved as he recalled his election to his first term as Secretary General, which took place in Monaco during this international gathering.

Mr Stock also asked us to be his interpreter in exchanges with H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Mr Patrice Cellario, Minister of the Interior, in order to express his appreciation and gratitude for the assistance and support always provided by the Principality to INTERPOL.
