Monaco shares experience of digital transition with members of French parliament

On Friday 16 October, Country Chief Digital Officer Frédéric Genta received a group of French parliamentarians at the Ministry of State, where he delivered a presentation on the Extended Monaco programme and shared the Principality’s experience over the last year of making digital technology the foundation of all public policies, supporting every aspect of society, in terms of health, education and public services. Today, more than ever before, digital technology is also a driver of economic recovery.

“We are all learning as we go, so we are all helping one another to ensure that we can all learn from each other. Monaco is part of this culture of sharing, learning and growing to succeed in a digital world,” said Frédéric Genta after the meeting.

The French parliamentarians, who are members of the new fact-finding team established at the French National Assembly this summer to “build and promote national and European digital sovereignty”, were thus able to learn the most useful lessons from the policy being pursued by the Principality in this area. They were particularly interested in subjects which are highly topical in France: digital identity, the challenges surrounding 5G and blockchain.

“The main lesson we can learn is the ability to take a cross-cutting approach to issues which are often tackled in isolation by each department. The value of having a control tower with a comprehensive outlook, which is concrete and operational in nature. Monaco offers a good model to put at the centre of the work that we intend to do,” concluded Jean-Michel Mis, the member of parliament for Loire and vice-president of this parliamentary team.
