Monaco reiterates full support for international humanitarian law

During the work of the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, which considers legal questions, the Principality of Monaco spoke on the agenda item devoted to “the status of the protocols additional to the Geneva Convention relating to the protection of victims of armed conflicts”, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the promotion of international humanitarian law, and particularly the protection of civil populations and the fight against impunity.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Principality unreservedly supports the UN Secretary-General’s call for a global ceasefire, multilateralism, solidarity and other calls for a global response, including a humanitarian dimension.

Monaco’s growing mobilisation on humanitarian issues was also reiterated. This can be seen through the cooperation activities of the Prince’s Government, the partnerships forged with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (Sanremo), as well as numerous UN funds and agencies, and through the actions of the Monaco Red Cross.
