Monaco at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA)
Mr Christophe Robino, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, accompanied by H.E. Ms Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, led the Monegasque delegation* to the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) held in Geneva from 19-27 May 2025.
The theme of this year’s Assembly was “One World for Health”. In a context where significant geopolitical tension divides the world and in which systemic challenges threaten global health, Mr Robino welcomed the adoption of the Pandemic Agreement following successful negotiation despite a tense international context.
He also reaffirmed the Principality’s commitment to multilateralism and the full achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In addition to geopolitical turmoil, the World Health Organization (WHO) is facing a financial crisis unprecedented in its history. As a result, discussions on the adoption of the 2026-2027 programme budget attracted particular attention, and Member States approved a considerably downsized budget, which will imply a restructuring of the Organization.
Several bilateral meetings were also held on the margins of the WHA, including with the health ministers of Italy, Madagascar and Lebanon to discuss topics of common interest. More generally, it was an opportunity for Mr Robino to engage with several counterparts, experts and international representatives on the global health situation and priorities.
