To celebrate Chinese New Year — year of the Wood Dragon — starting on 10 February 2024, the Monaco-Chine association hosted a “Soirée du dragon” evening event on 29 January 2024 at the Hotel Fairmont with the support of the Embassy of Monaco in China.

A symbol of strength and luck in Chinese astrology, the Wood Dragon year is said to bring energy, abundance, success and prosperity.

The event, which featured a blend of Chinese culture and Mediterranean cuisine, brought together Monegasque and Chinese guests from diplomatic, economic and cultural spheres.

Guests included the Chief of Staff of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Mr Christophe Steiner, Monaco’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Marie-Pascale Boisson, the Chinese Consul General in Marseille, Mr Dong Guangli, the Director of Diplomatic and Consular Relations, Mr Marie-Catherine Caruso-Ravera on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, as well as Guillaume Rose, CEO of the Monaco Economic Board.

The Tianjin Theatre and Opera company gave a multi-disciplinary performance of ancient Chinese arts, combining stunning traditional costumes, storytelling, dance, music and acrobatics.

Chinese culture was highlighted throughout the evening, with a Lion dance, Tai-Chi demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy, a traditional Guzheng music concert, as well as contemporary Chinese pop songs.

The event was a fun and festive way to celebrate relations between Monaco and China.
