7th Meeting of Parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area
Monaco took part in the 7th Meeting of the Parties to the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS), which was held from 5 to 8 November in Istanbul, Turkey.
During the meeting, and at the initiative of France and Monaco, the 24 states party to ACCOBAMS committed to taking action to help prevent the erosion of marine biodiversity.
The states adopted a work programme for the period 2020–2022, accompanied by cetacean conservation measures (implementing methods for monitoring underwater noise, reducing bycatch of cetaceans, introducing protocols for beaching incidents, including monitoring ingested plastics, etc.). The decisions taken were based on the outcomes of the recent international campaign developed and coordinated by the ACCOBAMS Permanent Secretariat, which led to a survey of dolphins and whales, as well as plastic waste, in the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
