The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, with support from the Albert II Foundation, have invited the studio smarin to present a new educational experience called “Schooltopia”.

Developed by the studio in 2022 for the “Art of teaching and learning: a school for creators” exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Metz, France, the experience is being presented in a school in Monaco for the first time.

“Schooltopia” will take place in a classroom of the Saint-Charles School until the winter holidays. During this period, CM1 (Year 5) pupils and their teacher will test an entire environment aimed primarily at:

-mobilising attention

-hive intelligence

-mobilising sensitivity

-body awareness

Studio smarin focuses on inventing objects with a reduced long-term impact on the human body and our ecosystem. Every room is created using pure and untreated natural materials chosen with the utmost care.

The installation is accompanied by a series of talks and hands-on workshops led by smarin with the schoolchildren to address subjects such as human biomechanics, collective coordination in the construction of public spaces, and the environmental footprint of materials. Games will also be used to explore sensitivity.
