Laying the Foundation Stone of the Future FANB Secondary School and Lycée
On Tuesday 4 October, the foundation stone of the future François d’Assise Nicolas Barré Secondary School and Lycée (upper secondary school) was laid in the presence of T.S.H. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene.
The Royal Couple were accompanied by the Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, the Minister of Interior, the Archbishop of Monaco, the Director of Education, Youth and Sport and other dignitaries.
The ceremony began with a presentation of the project and its implementation, given by the Director of the Public Works Office and Mr. Chérif Jahlan, the architect of the scheme.
Following a blessing by Msgr. Barsi, H.S.H. Prince Albert II placed a seal on a parchment scroll, for insertion in the foundation stone.
In line with His wishes, the whole project is being undertaken in a sustainable way, with the aim of achieving "High Environmental Quality" certification. The building work conforms to a "low-nuisance construction site" charter, which every firm working on the site has the obligation to respect.
The school is due to be completed for the last quarter of 2018. It will have a capacity of 750 pupils.
