On 22 November, in connection with the International Children's Rights Day, pupils from Years 5, 6 and 7 in the Principality's State schools and private schools under contract had an opportunity to meet Pascal Plisson, the director of the documentary film "Sur le chemin de l’école" ("On the Way to School").

The film recounts the journey to school of four children - Carlos (Argentina), who is 11 years old, Jackson (Kenya), who is 10, Samuel (India), who is 11, and Zahira (Morocco), who is 12.  Every day, these children face many dangers on their journey to school in a hostile and hazardous natural environment.

"Sur le chemin de l’école" has been seen by two million viewers.  It was awarded the "César for the best documentary" in 2014 and was screened at the headquarters of the United Nations in the same year.  It depicts the inequality of access to education for children throughout the world and the strong determination of these adolescents to do anything to have access to knowledge.

The pupils, who had all previously watched the film with their teachers, were able to ask Pascal Plisson questions and thus become aware that not everyone is able go to school and that much remains to be done to achieve the goal of education for all the children in the world.

This day devoted to the 2018 International Children's Rights Day came to a close with a public lecture by Mr. Plisson at Monaco's Vocational and Catering School (Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco), attended by Isabelle Bonnal, Director of Education, Youth and Sport, H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover and many representatives of the Principality's institutions, including Stéphane Valeri, President of the National Council, and Patrice Cellario, Minister of Interior.

Following this lecture, a cheque for EUR 10,000 was presented by the Department of Education, Youth and Sport to H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover, in Her capacity as President of the World Association of Children's Friends (AMADE), in support of the crucial activities that this association has been carrying out in the field for many years.
