The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is holding its annual day dedicated to the sea on 26 September 2024 under the banner “Navigating the future: safety first!” The event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).

The day’s theme was chosen in light of the importance of maritime safety and security and the protection of the marine environment in the work of the IMO.

Several events will take place as part of this day.

A symposium will be held in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization on the topic of extreme maritime weather. The Principality of Monaco, an IMO Member State, will be represented.

Since 2021, the IMO has invited Member States, government and non-governmental organisations to light up their country’s iconic buildings, ports and ships in blue to promote that year’s theme and raise awareness among the general public about the importance of maritime transport around the world.

To illustrate its commitment to the sea and the maritime community, the Principality will light up the Prince’s Palace and the Yacht Club of Monaco in blue.
