Monaco takes part in the World Climate Action Summit at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
The 28th session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) began work on Thursday 30 November in Dubai. This year marks a turning point in the implementation of the Paris agreement, signed in 2015 at COP 21. The first global Review of the Agreement will be undertaken, aimed at taking stock of the progress made by the international community to fight climate change. The purpose of this historic multilateral exercise is also to guide countries to correct their trajectory so as to achieve the objectives set by the Paris Agreement, in particular to cap global warming at 1.5°C.
To this end, on 1 and 2 December, the Emirati Head of the COP organised a World Climate Action Summit, which included H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, accompanied by Mrs Céline CARON-DAGIONI, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, and Mrs Valérie DAVENET, Director of the Environment*. Almost 170 Heads of State and Government were also present.
In his address, H.S.H. the Prince reaffirmed the Principality’s commitment to fighting climate change, highlighting the national climate policy, the significant increase in its international financial contributions as well as its historic attachment to including the ocean in discussions on climate.
“We have a compelling obligation to do everything in our power to correct the trajectory” – H.S.H. the Prince
* : The delegation from the Prince’s Government was made up of:
- Mrs Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development

- Mr Jérémie Carles, Head of Division at the Department of the Environment
