Monaco against deforestation: Charter on the Use and Virtuous Management of Wood
The Charter on the Use and Virtuous Management of Wood is part of the "Monaco Against Deforestation" campaign, initiated in 2011 as the result of a partnership between the Prince's Government, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the MC2D association and IMEDD. This Charter is subject to an annual assessment.
In 2017, 40 businesses took part in this study, thus reconfirming the importance they place on the Charter and their commitments. This individual assessment enables signatories to take stock of their situation and set out their aims for improvement.
Signatories and new members had an opportunity to share their experiences at a cocktail party at the Hôtel Novotel on Tuesday 18 December 2018, at which The Forest Trust held a conference on wood certification.
The results show that 98% of businesses consider the Wood Charter useful for including the issue of combating deforestation in their Social Responsibility policies.
The consumption pattern is as follows: paper (100% of the businesses involved), furniture (58%) and wood or wood products (60%).
From the point of view of their activities, the Wood Charter helps businesses in particular to better manage their waste (83%) and work with suppliers from sectors that offer certified products (78%).
The businesses also mention that the Wood Charter is viewed very favourably by both clients (100%) and employees (85%). In 2017, most of them made internal training on the topics of paper, furniture and wood a priority.
The Wood Charter and membership documents are available on the web sites of the Prince's Government, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and IMEDD.
