MACONSIGNE, a gesture of solidarity!

We have come a long way since MaConsigne was launched on 13 June 2022!

Here is a reminder of the objective: zero single-use plastic by 2030, targeting takeaway sales.

It is vital to reduce waste at source; a circular economy is key to this.

MaConsigne prevents more than seven tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise be generated by incinerating plastic containers.

For those who are not yet familiar with MaConsigne, this service is very easy AND free. Everyone can make a big difference with just one small step.

Take a look at the video currently being broadcast on Monaco Info and the Government's social media channels, where our three MaConsigne Ambassadors, a group of active retirees, share their experiences and talk about the benefits of the system to encourage everyone to do their bit to reduce waste at source.

Simply download the MaConsigne app and enter all the required information. It is free and easy!

The customer provides their ID to get their lunch in a glass container, this is a great way to preserve the flavours of the meal while staying healthy; glass does not contain PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and poly-fluoroalkyl substances), more commonly known as forever chemicals.

After you’ve eaten, simply drop off your empty, unwashed container within 14 days at one of the collection points located throughout the Principality.

The app allows users to pinpoint restaurants and collection points and it also tracks container usage.

Important: the customer pays for their purchase as usual. There is no advance charge for the deposit; a fee of €7 will only be debited if the container is not returned within the specified time.

As we approach our third anniversary, here are a few figures:

Nearly 85,000 containers used, and reused since launch; energy efficiency achieved, with more than 13 uses per container.

24 points of sale and 26 collection points across the region.

A constant volume of 3,000 containers per month with 1,655 MaConsigne members.

Individuals, company cafeterias, hotels, a university, and a healthcare facility, already use the system each day, which can also be used for one-off events.

In addition, since June 2024, the reusable Picadeli salad bowl at Carrefour Fontvieille has been integrated into the MaConsigne infrastructure.

There are also 'refer a friend' and ‘user of the month’ incentive schemes now running.

MaConsigne is free, easy, convenient, local, and good for the planet.
