International Conference Organised by INDEMER - Knowing the Oceans for Achieving Sustainable Development
On Thursday 27 April, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince opened this international conference, organised by INDEMER in association with the Oceanographic Institute, Albert I, Prince of Monaco Foundation. The conference will take place for two days at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
In his speech, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco emphasised that: "As you know, the Principality of Monaco wishes to seek the enrichment of knowledge by obtaining unbiased, credible and up-to-date scientific data that can be passed on to policymakers, in order to raise awareness that the ocean is the last continent to explore."
From 27 to 28 April, international scientists and lawyers will take part in debate to ensure the accessibility of scientific data on the oceans, not only to researchers but to State leaders, in order to bring about the efficient management of maritime areas.
This conference is perfectly in line with Goal 14* of the Sustainable Development Programme adopted by the United Nations.
*Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
