European Week for Waste Reduction: The Department of the Environment organises an underwear collection initiative
As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) from 21 to 26 November 2022, in the Principality of Monaco, the Department of the Environment is launching an initiative to collect donated clean underwear.
The move ties in with the theme of this year’s EWWR, which is: “Circular and Sustainable Textiles” under the slogan “Waste is out of fashion!”
To raise awareness about the environmental impact of the textile industry’s production and distribution processes, ‘fast fashion’, and the incineration of material, the Department of the Environment has installed a container in the Fontvieille shopping mall, where anyone can deposit unwanted items of clean underwear (underpants, panties, socks, bras, etc.), so that they can be re-used, upcycled, or recycled.
The container can be found at the entrance to the shopping mall until 25 November, and will be moved to Promenade Honoré II (opposite the Maison des Associations - Casa d’i Soci) on 26 November, for sustainable textiles day.
