In order to further strengthen measures to protect and combat COVID-19, the Prince's Government wished public areas such as pavements and lifts to be treated.

"It is important that we deploy all our staff and all our resources to reduce the risk of contamination for Monegasques, residents and employees.  This additional action should contribute to this.  I would like to thank the management of the Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA) and its staff for their involvement and proactiveness," stated Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development.

From 5 a.m. this morning, the SMA has been putting the necessary procedures in place to disinfect pavements, station platforms, lifts and handrails with a biodegradable bactericide scented with maritime pine.

Disinfection of pavements:  a spray lance operator is accompanying a large sprinkler vehicle with a capacity of 8,000 litres and three spray lance operators are circulating on small vehicles equipped with a tank and a hose.

For disinfecting lifts and handrails, the operatives will be supplied with the necessary equipment to manually disinfect lift buttons, handrails of escalators and travelators and handrails of pedestrian walkways.

These operations will involve 30 or so SMA operatives, seven days a week.
