A day of festivities to close the 7th International Rose Trials of Monaco
This year, the international jury of the Rose Trials awarded the French grower EVE–RATEAU four prestigious prizes in honour of its work in the creation, hybridisation and breeding of new roses: the PIAGET ROSE Trophy, offered by Piaget; the Perfume Cup, offered by Monaco City Hall for the JEAN CARLES® EVEpiweet; the Thumbs Up from the Friends of the Princess Grace Rose Garden, and the gold medal for the MADAME® EVEvilady rose.
The competition continued along the pathways of the Princess Grace Rose Garden and on the Prince’s Government’s social media accounts with the Public Choice Award. Close to 1,000 people voted. The winner is the Romaneche la Montagne® rose by the breeder Marie-Françoise Dorieux, competing as number 58 in the Many-flowered roses category.
To celebrate the end of the 7th trials and the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Princess Grace Rose Garden, a day of festivities was organised in the heart of the garden by the Prince’s Government and the Friends of the Princess Grace Rose Garden.
The programme included an exclusive sale of rose bushes to raise funds for the Princess Grace Foundation, a crowdsourced creation with Mr. One Teas, a Tony Szabo watercolour exhibition, a treasure hunt, a guided tour of the rose garden with the teams of the Department of Urban Amenities, and an award ceremony featuring traditional Monegasque songs performed by Cantin d’a Roca and jazz with the Orchestra of the Palace Guards.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover graced the event, during which Mr Yves Piaget, President of the Friends of the Princess Grace Rose Garden Association, paid a warm tribute to Princess Grace – the inspiration for the garden – and Prince Rainier III, whose wish it was to create the garden as soon as the plans for the Fontvieille district were drawn up.
