HERCULIS EBS 2019: Pierre-Ambroise BOSSE and Caterine IBARGÜEN set to return to Monaco
Clashes between the world’s best athletes, including several Olympic and world medallists, await Monegasque spectators at the next Herculis EBS meeting in the Principality, which will be held on Friday 12 July at the Louis II Stadium. It promises to be an elite occasion.
Voted best meeting in the world in 2018, the Monaco event cannot afford to let the standard slip this year. Read on for more details about three of the events in store for 2019.
BOSSE TAKES ON THE BEST
Reigning world champion Pierre-Ambroise BOSSE will make his return to the track in Monaco, where he set the French record of 1.42.53 in 2014. At Herculis EBS 2019, the Frenchman will compete against Kenya’s Emmanuel KORIR, who won the IAAF Diamond League 2018 and recorded the best time in the world that year (1.42.05), as well as 2018 winner and Herculis meeting record holder Nijel AMOS (1.42.14). These two African athletes will be aiming to improve on their performances last year, which could push Bosse to smash his personal best.
WOMEN’S TRIPLE JUMP ON PORT HERCULE
Following on from of the success of Big Shot 2018, when the shot put events took over Monaco’s Port Hercule, this year Herculis EBS will be showcasing the Women’s Triple Jump at “City Jump” in the city centre on Thursday 11 July, starting at 7 pm.
Olympic champion and 2018 athlete of the year Caterine IBARGÜEN (holder of the IAAF Diamond League world record of 15.31m, set in Monaco in 2014) will face reigning world champion Yulimar ROJAS (personal best of 15.02m) and junior world champion Rouguy DIALLO, competing in her home region. A member of the Nice Côte d’Azur Athletics Club who recently came seventh in the European Indoor Championships, the French athlete will be keen to shine in front of her fans. This clash should lead her to improve on her personal best of 14.31m.
A FIRST-CLASS 400M HURDLES
The world champion, the European champion and the holder of the junior world record are all set to compete at the Louis II Stadium on 12 July 2019.
Kori CARTER, who won the 2017 world championship in London following victory in Monaco the same year, will encounter Switzerland’s Léa SPRUNGER, European indoor champion over 400m flat, as well as new global sensation Sydney McLAUGHLIN, who kicked off her 2019 season with a second-place finish over 400m at the Shanghai meeting and will line up for the 400m hurdles in Oslo. The Herculis meeting record, set at 52.63 by Lashinda DEMUS ten years ago, will certainly be under threat from these three athletes.
