Pink October: breast cancer awareness month

©Direction de la Communication - Stéphane Danna

The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs has been supporting and taking part in the Pink October breast cancer prevention and control campaign since the beginning of the month.

As part of this awareness campaign, Princess Grace Hospital today set up several dedicated stands.

A number of actions aimed at promoting breast cancer screening have also been taken in partnership with the “Pink Ribbon Monaco” and “Écoute Cancer Réconfort” associations in recent days.

Several doctors and nurses from Princess Grace Hospital were out on Place d’Armes on Saturday morning to discuss a variety of issues relating to breast cancer.

On Sunday, the Monaco–Rennes football match played host to a blood donation drive, €1 tickets for female supporters wearing pink and an information stand.

Breast cancer is diagnosed through a clinical examination and scans (mammogram, ultrasound, etc.). The frequency of clinical examinations and scans to check for breast cancer depends on the level of risk. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the higher the chances of it being cured. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the less aggressive the treatment will be. In France, 60,000 new cases of breast cancer are detected every year.

Further reporting will follow on Monaco Info and the Government’s social media pages from tomorrow.
