Two new self-service community libraries
The Department of Urban Amenities is continuing to roll out community libraries in the various districts of the Principality. Two new libraries have just been set up.
Following the establishment of libraries in the Jardin de l’Âne in Fontvieille and at the railway station, both in 2019, Square Gastaud in La Condamine and the Jardin du Trocadero, Place des Moulins now also have similar facilities.
Recognisable thanks to the original design by architects Marcelo Ertoteguy and Sara Valente, the founders of Studio Stereotank (http://www.stereotank.com) in New York, the concept was, with their agreement, adopted and adapted by the Department of Urban Amenities to suit the Principality.
The aim remains to offer a second lease of life to books, as well as CDs and DVDs, by leaving them in a library so that anyone can borrow and reuse them, preventing them from being thrown away.
Feel free to make use of the libraries and to leave books that you no longer want but which others may enjoy.
