Fontvieille: an ambitious project serving Monegasques and residents

The Prince’s Government is undertaking an ambitious restructuring project for the Fontvieille Shopping Centre, a key public facility in the Principality.

This project, aimed at modernising the site and enhancing its appeal, involves the active participation of Government services under the coordination of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, in close cooperation with the stakeholders concerned. Its objective is to meet the expectations of Monegasques and residents by offering a diversified range of retail outlets, everyday public services, and a wide array of leisure and dining options.

Due to its complexity — combining day-to-day operational constraints, strict safety and accessibility obligations, and a dense, fast-evolving commercial environment — the project requires careful planning, early impact assessment, and constructive dialogue with both retailers and users.

An initial information meeting was held on Thursday 24 July 2025 with current businesses operating within the Shopping Centre. These meetings will continue throughout the project, with dedicated points of contact to ensure tailored follow-up.

In parallel with the redevelopment project, the Government is continuing its efforts to maintain a functional and welcoming centre:

- €8 million invested since 2019, including €5 million for the replacement of travelators and walkways starting in 2026,
- a further €2 million proposed to improve user comfort and the centre’s overall aesthetic,
- an increased annual operating budget to ensure safety, cleanliness and business continuity,µ
- ongoing commercial events supported by an increased subsidy to the Economic Interest Group (GIE).

The Government remains fully committed, alongside its administrative services, to implementing this complex project with method, consistency and high standards, in a spirit of dialogue and accountability, for the benefit of Fontvieille’s appeal, its users, its retailers and the local community as a whole.
