Monaco to take part in European Garden Event for first time

The Principality of Monaco has been asked by the French Ministry of Culture to take part in the European Garden Event. This year’s theme is “The Europe of Gardens”.

The event is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. It is first and foremost a great celebration of gardens and an opportunity for the general public to discover some remarkable spaces and engage in discussions with professionals.

For its first contribution to the event, the Prince’s Government is offering a range of activities, including guided tours. By appointment only, these tours will be held on 2 and 3 June by the Gardens Section of the Department of Urban Amenities, and will showcase the Principality’s gardens: the Princess Grace Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the St Martin Gardens, and the two new Heritage Tree Trails: Fontvieille and Monaco Ville (a detailed programme is attached to this press release).

From Friday 1 June, schoolchildren in the Principality will enjoy a preview of the new Fontvieille Heritage Tree Trail, with a botanically themed treasure hunt which will lead them from the Princess Grace Rose Garden to the UNESCO Gardens.

In parallel with the event and in collaboration with the Tourist and Convention Authority and the Prince Albert II Foundation, the new Heritage Tree Trails brochure will then be officially launched at 5 pm on Friday 1 June. The Tourist and Convention Authority will present the new brochure, which covers the three trails. This will be followed by a guided tour of the Fontvieille trail, from the UNESCO Gardens to the Rose Garden.
