On 4 April, the residents of the Monaco Foundation were invited by Peace and Sport to attend the International Dialogue 'Athletes Game On for Peace' at UNESCO headquarters to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, now an annual event at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP).
Thanks to the efforts of Ms Martine Garcia-Mascarenhas, Director of the Monaco Foundation and
Mr Gabriel Deri, Vice-President and Sports Delegate of the Residents' Committee, students from 8 other CIUP Houses (Allemagne, Arménie, Canada, Mexique, Portugal, Fondation Lucien Paye/Afriques, Maison des étudiants de la Francophonie, Résidences étudiantes AgroParisTech) and the 'DiploCité' initiative had the opportunity to discover the inspiring movements; Peace through Sport, and the Champions for Peace.
The passionate speeches made by the athlete peace leaders in attendance, Didier Drogba, Vice-Chairman of Peace and Sport, Siya Kolisi, the first black captain of the South African rugby team (currently playing for the French Racing 92 team), and Masomah Ali Zada, Chef de Mission of the Paris 2024 Refugee Olympic Team, highlighted the key role that athletes can play as 'catalysts for peace' and 'ambassadors for social change', particularly during this Olympic year.
President and Founder of Peace and Sport, Joël Bouzou, was present to watch all the residents brandish a white card in support of Peace and Sport's viral #WhiteCard campaign to promote peace across all divides.
