Monaco attends the 177th session of the FAO Council.
Representatives from the Principality of Monaco headed to Rome from 7 to 11 April to observe the 177th session of the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
During this session, the Council addressed the critical situation in Gaza, where recent assessments by the organisation highlight the extensive destruction of the agricultural industry and its impact on the civilian population, who have suffered extremely high levels of acute food insecurity since the conflict began, the effects of the war in Ukraine on global food systems and the work carried out by the FAO in crisis contexts in 75 countries including Burkina Faso, Lebanon, Niger and Haiti are given priority attention in Monaco's cooperation and emergency aid policies.
In addition to discussions on budgeting issues, this session featured extensive talks on potential reform of the organisation, the process of which is expected to be officially presented at the 44th FAO Conference next summer.
The Principality has endorsed several statements issued by the European Union on matters relating to global food security and agriculture and the FAO's current and future actions.
For reference, the FAO Council, comprising 49 members, acts as the organisation's executive body.
