Monaco celebrates the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace at the United Nations
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, celebrated this year on 7 April, was held under the theme of social inclusion in the run-up to the Second World Summit for Social Development in November 2025 in Doha.
This year's theme sought to challenge stereotypes, promote equal opportunities and encourage inclusive sports for all by highlighting the role of sport as a unifying force that paves the way for equitable societies while being a powerful platform for dialogue that will spark positive change across the world.
The Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco joined forces with the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and UN Women to organise a panel of athletes to highlight the role of sport in promoting social inclusion. The panel comprised Paralympic swimmer Jamal Hill, Qatari mountaineer Asma Al-Thani, US footballer Justin Morrow and US basketball player Veronica Sheffey. Kenyan marathon runner and global spokeswoman for peace and women's rights Tegla Loroupe also participated in the event.
After the closing remarks by the Representative of the International Olympic Committee in New York, the athletes unveiled a series of stamps entitled 'Sport for Peace,' created by the United Nations Postal Administration.
