UNESCO: the Principality of Monaco continues 75th anniversary celebrations with a dinner hosted by students from the Lycée Rainier III

H.E. Ambassador Anne-Marie Boisbouvier, Monaco’s Permanent Delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), continued festivities launched in February to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Principality’s accession to the Organization with a dinner organised on 11 April 2024 in the restaurant of UNESCO.

To celebrate youth and education, the dinner was designed, prepared and served by students from the Lycée Rainier III in Monaco and their teachers. The dinner was attended by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Qu Xin, who congratulated them on their efforts in preparing the event.

Pupils and students at the Lycée Rainier III, supervised by their teachers, began working on this classroom educational project at the start of the new school year in 2023 in order to design this meal for diplomatic representatives to UNESCO.

Applied arts and manufacturing teachers helped students take a creative approach in the design of a unique, numbered gift box called ‘MY75’, made by the students and handed out to guests at the event.

Some 60 ambassadors and leading figures of the UNESCO Secretariat¹ and the Principality of Monaco² attended, enjoying Monegasque and Mediterranean specialties prepared by the students.

H.E. Ms. Anne-Marie Boisbouvier expressed her sincere thanks to all the partners of this event, without whom the evening would not have been possible, and more particularly representatives of the Monte Carlo Société des Bains de Mers as well as Maison Lenôtre and the SODEXO.

She also congratulated the teachers who showcased secondary schools specialised in wine-related professions by offering wines grown at the Libourne Montagne viticulture school in the Bordeaux region, and Lycée Bel Air in the heart of the Beaujolais.

On 6 July 1949 Monaco submitted its accession instruments to UNESCO. The Permanent Delegation of Monaco to UNESCO is celebrating this anniversary with several events that highlight the international role of the Principality and showcase the many Monegasque organisations working in the fields of action of UNESCO.

Ottone; for Priority Africa and External Relations, Mr Anthony Ohemeng-Boamah; for Natural Sciences, Ms Lidia Arthur Brito; for Communication and Information, Mr Tawfik Jelassi; for Administration and Management, Mr Nicholas Jeffreys and Mr Toussaint Tiendrebeogo, Secretary of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

2. Including Yvette Lambin Berti, Secretary of State, Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr Patrice Cellario, Minister of the Interior, Ms Françoise Gamerdinger, Director of Cultural Affairs, and Ms Geneviève Vatrican, Chair of the Monegasque National Commission for UNESCO.
