Baroque music concert Organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs - Friday 16 December 2022, 8 pm - Monaco Cathedral
Works by Lassus, Tallis, Byrd, Palestrina. By the ensemble La Chambre. Led by Jean-Sébastien Beauvais.
Since 2011, Monaco’s Department of Cultural Affairs has presented an annual series of concerts of baroque music with support from the Monaco Diocese. In the run-up to the Christmas holidays, the ensemble La Chambre will perform at Monaco Cathedral on Friday 16 December 2022, at 8 pm.
Surge Propera! is a concert featuring six voices, organ and theorbo, which will enable the audience to discover – or rediscover – major works by the grand masters of the Renaissance: Roland de Lassus, Thomas Tallis, William Byrd and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The programme, which has been put together especially for the concert at the Cathedral, will take listeners on a musical journey close to the wonders of Christmas, where the figure of the Virgin Mary and the woman cross paths.
Led by Jean-Sébastien Beauvais, the ensemble La Chambre has given regular performances in Monaco, France and further afield since 2009. From the history of Renaissance music to contemporary compositions, from Palestrina’s Pope Marcellus Mass to a cappella works by Whitacre, Dubra and Vasks, the group’s wide repertoire reflects its quest for a performance that combines elements of liturgy, music and spirituality. La Chambre also organises the BaroQuiales Festival of Early Music (Alpes-Maritimes), in residence in Sospel. The festival is a cultural event devoted to all things baroque, to dialogue, to the sharing of knowledge, to the development of new musical activities and to the creation of unique, original programmes amid the protected Provençal baroque architectural heritage.
