On the instructions of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Prince's Government is actively supporting the "Solidarity at Christmas for the Children of the Roya Valley" initiative, which was instigated by Alexandra Valetta-Ardisson, Member of the French National Assembly representing the Alpes-Maritimes, and the Urban Communities of the French Riviera.

The aim of this charitable event is to give toys to all children aged 0-14 in the Roya Valley, which suffered severe damage as a result of Storm Alex on 2 October.  In total, almost 600 children are involved.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II and His Government are very aware of the consequences of the adverse weather that had a major impact on the countryside and its inhabitants, and are contributing EUR 15,000 to this initiative.  Monaco's participation should make it possible to give a gift to every child.

This act of solidarity is testimony to the importance the Principality of Monaco places on the people who live in the countryside.  A few days after the devastation caused by Storm Alex, the Sovereign Prince visited the area to assess the extent of the damage and show the Principality's support.  Monaco then provided EUR 1 million to each of the affected valleys, namely Vésubie, Roya, Tinée and the town of Ventimiglia.

In addition to this financial aid, many spontaneous acts of solidarity have been organised by various players in the Principality of Monaco.
