Security at events

The permit issued by the Ministry of Interior can require the organiser to implement specific measures regarding the security of the venue or the participants or measures to reduce environmental nuisance. It can limit the duration of the event and stipulate measures aimed at promoting the smooth running of the event.

A security committee ensures that equipment conforms to regulations and meets the standards for places where the public assembles.

The Police Department is involved in any event that might spill onto the public highway or would lead to a large gathering of people (such as football matches, formula 1 grand Prix, gala evenings, etc.). It assists with the security of spectators and property, in liaison with the organiser and other partners (the Fire and Emergency Service, Monaco Red Cross, health services).

Public movements are monitored using a sophisticated video surveillance system, and the police are ready to intervene at any time. Police officers manage arrivals on site and departures from the event in an appropriate way and seek to limit the effects of the event on traffic. More generally, the Police Department ensures that public order is maintained while enabling the event to take place successfully.

The assistance of the Prince's Guards – the second military unit forming part of the Military Force – is also used for emergency prevention measures covering risks during special events or large gatherings of people. Click here to find out more

At sea, the The Marine and Airport Police Division with its two ships, regularly assists with maritime security at nautical events held in the principality (Primo-Cup, rowing competitions, Monaco Yacht Show, …).
