WHO - Monaco Takes Part in the 71st Session of the Regional Committee for Europe

The 71st session of the WHO's Regional Committee for Europe was held in a virtual format from 13 to 15 September 2021.

During these three days of discussions, health ministers and senior officials from the 53 Member States of the WHO European Region, as well as representatives of partner organisations and civil society, took stock of the current health situation and discussed the direction of future activities of the Regional Committee.

The 71st session was notable for fruitful discussions on the lessons learned from the pandemic in terms of emergency preparedness and response, as well as on opportunities to exploit the potential of primary health care in the post-COVID-19 era.

In her speech, H.E. Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva, referred, in particular, to the Principality's ability to take advantage of its special characteristics as a micro-State to best manage such a crisis by developing digital technologies to improve the health of its population.

The Regional Committee also approved the launch of key initiatives of the European Work Programme, including the European Immunisation Agenda 2030 and the Mental Health Coalition.

As a side-event of the 71st session, a WHO Small Countries Initiative event was held, at which the 2022-2025 roadmap to better health was presented to the 11 participating States.
