Visite en Principauté du Quartet du Dialogue National Tunisien
Representatives of the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate,* paid a visit to Monaco on 7 and 8 July 2016. During their various meetings, the members of the Quartet – Mr Abdessattar Ben Moussa, President of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH),
Mr Hassine Abassi, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), and
Ms Ouided Bouchamaoui, leader of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) – were accompanied by Mr Hamed Ben Brahim, Tunisia’s Consul General in Monaco and Mr Ameur Chiha, Tunisia’s Honorary Consul in Monaco.
The delegation was granted an audience with H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, at which Ms Anne-Marie Boisbouvier, Advisor in the Prince's Cabinet, Mr Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mr Slah-Eddine Bensaid, Monaco’s Consul General in Tunisia, were present.
The Quartet members were also received by the Minister of State.
They met Christophe Steiner, President of the National Council, and had an opportunity to talk to representatives from the Peace & Sport organisation in advance of the 9th Peace and Sport International Forum.
As part of the visit, the Tunisian Consul General, in conjunction with the Tunisian Honorary Consul, organised a conference at the Automobile Club of Monaco, at which the members of the Quartet gave a presentation on the decisive role that they played in setting up the national dialogue during their country’s democratic transition. They emphasised the importance of the support provided by the international community to this process.
* The 2015 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a Quartet comprising the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH); the Tunisian Order of Lawyers (which did not send a representative for this visit due to the bar elections); the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT); and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA).
