Copenhagen High-Level Conference on the Reform of the European Convention on Human Rights System - 12 and 13 April 2018
From 12 to 13 April 2018, the fifth High Level Conference on the Reform of the European Convention on Human Rights system was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, at the end of which a Declaration was adopted by all the member States of the Council of Europe.
Under the terms of this Convention, the signatory States were able, in particular, to reiterate their determination that the Convention should constitute an effective, targeted and balanced tool, implemented in a concrete manner at the national level.
Similarly, while welcoming the efforts made by the European Court of Human Rights to improve the clarity and consistency of its judgments, the Declaration stressed the need for the Court, within the context of the discretionary powers left to States, to continue to ensure a prudent and balanced interpretation of the provisions of the Convention.
The Conference was also an opportunity for each of the Ministers of Justice of the States Parties to the Convention to give a speech. Mr. Anselmi, Secretary of Justice, President of the Council of State, was therefore able to recall the steadfast importance that the Principality places on the system of human rights protection established by the Convention.
He also emphasised his country's determination to implement the Court's judgments with regard to Monaco promptly, while noting that the Monegasque authorities also remained very attentive to judgments concerning other States.
