On 10 October 2016, as part of the work of the UN's Committee on Economic and Financial Issues and during the examination of the agenda item devoted to sustainable development, H.E. Ms. Isabelle Picco, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations in New York, recalled "Monaco's proactive policy to promote public health and sustainable cities."

The Prince's Government, through its transport choices, water and waste management and action to preserve the environment, as well as its mode of consumption, with, in particular, the "bag for life" awareness-raising campaigns, is a recognised player in promoting sustainable development.

The Permanent Representative of Monaco also informed Committee members of the awareness-raising measures taken, particularly with regard to the importance of educating young people in sustainable development.

Finally, reiterating the Principality's commitment to promoting the role of science in the field of climate change, H.E. Ms. Isabelle Picco announced that a workshop would be held in 2017 on the socio-economic impact of ocean acidification.  This workshop is organised by the Monaco Scientific Centre in association with the IAEA's Environment Laboratories and is part of the activities of the Monaco-based Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre, under the aegis of the IAEA.
