Monaco Statistics publishes new data about women in the private sector

Following a study of women in business and the introduction of monitoring indicators to measure violence against women in the Principality, in January Monaco Statistics made a further contribution to the Women’s Rights Committee by publishing new data on female employees in the private sector.

These indicators paint a picture of women in the private sector: as of the end of 2019, there were 21,000 female employees, accounting for 40% of the entire private-sector workforce (53,091 employees). Four major trends emerged: female employees live closer to their place of work and are younger than their male counterparts; nearly half of women work part-time; and five of the 12 major economic sectors are gender-balanced (excluding data relating to domestic staff and temporary workers).

Female employees dominate the administration, education, health and social work sector (71% of the workforce) but are heavily outnumbered in construction (9%). Higher numbers of female employees work in small businesses (fewer than five employees). Finally, the study includes a special focus on the 355 women of Monegasque nationality working in the private sector.
