The Monaco Gerontology Coordination Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary
On 12 June, the Monaco Gerontology Coordination Center (CCGM) celebrated its 20th anniversary in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Mr Christophe Robino, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Mr. Philippe Migliasso, Senior Healthcare Executive, Dr. Pascale Gelormini, and many other Monegasque dignitaries.
After touring the facilities, Mr Robino gave a speech highlighting the CCGM's strategic importance for the Principality, "Without this centre, it would be extremely difficult for seniors to continue living in their own homes. The CCGM is involved at all levels, leveraging its expertise to assess situations and implement all necessary measures to allow them to remain at home”.
The CCGM is fully dedicated to supporting seniors and caring for those who are losing their independence. It relies on a multidisciplinary team specialising in gerontology.
Its role is to offer practical support to seniors:
– Personalised information and advice
– Access to a directory of service providers and available services
– Facilitating discussion groups
– Developing personalised care and support plans
– Coordinating a healthcare network
- Providing practitioner training
– Raising awareness about major public health issues
Mr Philippe Migliasso, who is in charge of the centre, stated: "We have seen a change over the last 20 years. It is somewhat of a sociological observation of changing attitudes. Today, people want to be involved in their own care, to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, and to make their own decisions about their lifestyle. The CCGM respects each person's own pace. The CCGM oversees 800 individual cases per year”.
The CCGM's geriatrician, Dr Pascale Gelormini, acknowledged the commitment and vital role of carers, stating, "We identified this need on the ground, through direct experience of the realities faced by seniors and their families. The centre was founded on the fundamental belief that vulnerability deserves dignified, ethical, competent and deeply human support. […] But also the central role of an often invisible but vital figure: the carer. The CCGM is also committed to understanding its role, providing support and guidance.”
To mark the occasion, Monegasque artist Mr OneTeas unveiled his latest piece, which will soon take pride of place in the CCGM entryway. Through a symbolic and human approach, this painting honours the core values of respect, solidarity and support that are deeply embraced by the centre. It also bears the signature of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, who contributed to its creation, thereby lending his personal and heartfelt support to this initiative. This is a powerful tribute to the 20 years of service provided by an institution that is vital to the Principality's seniors.
