Mr Christophe Robino, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, led the Monegasque delegation* that took part in the 74th session of the World Health Organization Regional Committee for Europe (WHO/Europe), held in Copenhagen (Denmark) from 29 to 31 October 2024.

Delegations from the 53 WHO Member States of WHO/Europe, as well as representatives of partner organisations and civil society, met to review the current state of health and well-being in Europe. Participants also discussed the future focus of the activities of the Regional Committee.

Christophe Robino reaffirmed the Principality’s commitment to the work of this Organisation and underscored the importance of ambitious and concerted action to address the various major challenges affecting the region. This session was especially marked by energetic debate on the impact of armed conflict on the health of populations in Ukraine and the Middle East. In this context, the Principality stressed the importance of respecting the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law while strongly condemning attacks on healthcare infrastructure. Mr Robino also deplored the re-emergence of polio in Gaza and highlighted the need to ensure universal access to vaccines in conflict zones and elsewhere.

Dr Hans Kluge was re-appointed to a second mandate as Regional Director for Europe. Dr Kluge presented his political, technical and Organisation-level priorities for this second mandate (2025-2030). Member States unanimously welcomed this re-appointment.

During the session, the Monegasque delegation had the opportunity to meet with various stakeholders and partners. Mr Robino was able to present several recent achievements in the Principality and compare them with the experiences of other countries, while considering prospects for partnerships with the aim of continuous improvement in public policy and services.
